When I think back to Trinco, I remember coffee! Yeah, I know it's not that romantic, but it was the only place in Sri Lanka where I found good coffee and I really missed it! Oh! And Pigeon Island and the beautiful calm waters and the Hindu Temple. Ok, maybe it will be better to make a list!
But first, a short story: Parked outside the temple (Sri Pathrakali Amman Kovil) and I told hubby to leave the helmets on the scooter ‘we are near a temple, they won’t steal them from here’. He was a bit skeptical, he told me that he will feel better if we take them inside, but in the end he listened to me. You see where I’m getting, right? We were lucky to catch a ceremony inside and, of course, we stayed a little more there, being fascinated by the rituals and all the colors. Yeap, our helmets were long gone when we got back. We looked around lost and confused, people told us that they didn't see anything and we really didn't knew how to react. Shortly, a priest came to us and we tried to explain that someone took our helmets. He just stood there, looked at us, asked us to come inside and just offered us two helmets. Just like that! He simply told us ‘People are bad sometimes’!
HOW TO SPEND 3 DAYS IN TRINCOMALEE!
- Take the bus to get to Trinco
As I said in a previous post, buses in Sri Lanka are cheap, fast and fun! Don't be afraid to use them!
- Rent a scooter and lookout for the cows on the road
Literally, there are a lot of cows in the middle of the road all around Trincomalee, Nilaveli and Upuveli so you should be very careful!
- Go have coffee Cafe on the 18th
Eat there also!
- Visit Fort Frederik
To be honest, it's a bit boring. But if you're bored, you can spend like half an hour walking around.
- Go snorkeling on Pigeon Island
This was my favorite activity! <3
- Visit Sri Pathrakali Amman Kovil
Don't forget to look up while inside!
- Have a drink at Fernando’s Bar
But don't eat there! Go have a drink at night, they have a cool bonfire!
- I know it’s implied, but RELAX AND ENJOY THE SEA!
Sometimes we simply forget!
- DON'T GO WHALE/DOLPHIN WATCHING
It was an awful experience! Compared to Tenerife where the boats just stand still and wait for the dolphins to come close, in Sri Lanka they chase the dolphins! Imagine 20 motorboats rushing toward the dolphins! They were hiding from us and it seemed like a very stressful environment for them. I hated the whole thing!
